StudyXpress is an innovative, securely financed and highly professional private training company. The senior management team is made up of several highly experienced and successful vocational specialists who can point to excellent inspection reports as evidence of their ability to design and deliver a high quality vocational curriculum to a range of client groups.
StudyXpress prefers to operate as a member of a partnership wherever possible, but also operates independently, where partners are not available. Our current contracts include collaborative arrangements with colleges, Job Centre Plus, schools and other providers to deliver a wide range of curricula.
StudyXpress is also in the process of developing strong relationships with EBPs in Hampshire, London and the West Midlands and has already secured contracts to deliver 14 - 16 vocational learning at its Fareham centre for 2006/7. In addition the company is currently negotiating to establish a dedicated Skills Centre in north Hampshire, working in collaboration with First Partnership, again ready for the beginning of the 2006/7 academic year.
We have taken the natural step of appointing an experienced 14-16 professional to plan and co-ordinate the expansion of our vocational curriculum for schools and any associated consortia and to develop dedicated provision, within our planned new Skills Centres, for the years 10 and 11 client group.
Over a ten-year period our ambition is to open 50 skills centres (like those pictured above) across the country and become nationally recognised as a provider of high quality vocational training opportunities, affording a range of clients, either direct entry into employment, or structured progression routes to higher level qualifications.
With five centres in the first year of operation StudyXpress is well on target.
In addition to delivering curriculum StudyXpress has also written and had accredited two new qualifications specifically designed for particular client groups. We are also in the process of writing two new level 1 qualifications designed to meet the needs of the 14 -16 client groups in Construction and Hairdressing. These will be available in 2006/7.
The 2006/7 academic year will see several new curriculum offers which will include further Construction programmes, Hair and Beauty, Motor Vehicle and Retail.
Within our adult, post 16, provision it is our policy, not only to ensure we offer high quality training, but that we do it with empathy and understanding and this will be the hallmark our approach at 14 – 16. We treat each learner as an individual and support their learning needs accordingly. In our work for Job Centre Plus and our other contracts, we have adopted a unique approach, to both the delivery of the programme and the support of the individual.
We decided, early on in the development of our programmes, to offer a ‘roll on/roll off’ delivery mode; thus at the beginning of each week we take new learners, sometimes only one , sometimes as many as seven - but we never have higher than a 15:1 ratio and we also ensure a sufficient technician and additional learning support staffing presence.
Each individual has a structured induction, individual learning agreement and, if a basic skills (Skills for Life) assessment has not already been undertaken, we will assess the learner. This assessment is not as a measure to restrict access but rather to assess those who will need on-going individual support and in what areas.
Online Materials
All learning materials are online and can be accessed by learners either at work, home, in our centre, at school or indeed in any location where there is Internet connectivity. The advantages are very tangible.
- Learners can log on at any time and many work in the evenings from home.
- There is no note taking or dictation.
- Learners can concentrate on skill acquisition, underpinned by on-line theoretical support; learners do not gain mere theoretical knowledge at the expense of skills development.
- Learners can be supported on a one to one basis, by our tutors through a booking system or a drop in system.
- The material is in an accessible, easy to understand, colour coded, modular format employing photographs, drawings and diagrams.
- All assessments are either simple multiple choices, word searches or missing words. Assignments are on line, which again, if the learner is experiencing difficulties or simply needs help, can be supported by a learning support tutor.
- All tasks are photographed and integrated into the electronic learner Portfolio of Evidence, with appropriate comments from both students and tutors.
The result is:
- quick acquisition of practical skills
- a dramatic increase in the individual’s sense of achievement and self-esteem
- a real opportunity for further progression into a structured learning environment or directly into employment.
- impressive retention, achievement and success rates.
The learning programmes have been tailored to suit both individual clients and client groups. Our core programmes are BTEC & City & Guilds level 1 or level 2 on the national qualifications framework. We can work with clients at Entry level. We are also looking to develop programmes with other awarding bodies.
In addition to these advantages our system also produces detailed reports, tracks learner progress and monitors the outcomes of assignments. The multiple choice elements of the assessments are interactive giving instant learner feedback to both learner and tutor.
